The County celebrated Canada’s 149th birthday in grand fashion – under mostly sunny skies with a brief rainfall.
Wellington’s celebrations opened with a line-up to enjoy the Friends of the Museum’s famous pancake breakfast. The village was awash in red and white as residents and visitors made their way to the library for the book sale, to the park and school for food and fun and lined the Main Street to enjoy the parade. The 40 new Canadian flags waving on the Main Street parade route were again paid for by Sharon Armitage, of Quinte Isle Real Estate.

Picton’s celebrations got under way at noon on a newly-paved temporary Main Street, complete with a sodded playground area inviting children to run and play soccer, hula-hoop and make rubber chickens fly from a rainbow tent.
The County’s new aeriel fire truck attracted a lot of attention – its 107-foot ladder fully extended and bearing the Canadian flag.
Meanwhile, Benson Park was filled with family fun in several bouncy castles and slides. The sun came out again following a brief rainfall mid-afternoon. Fireworks are scheduled for dusk from Delhi Park.
