County’s Jen Ronan will carry Pan Am torch

The County’s Jennifer Ronan has been selected to be a Pan Am Games torchbearer.

On July 3, Ronan will be carrying the torch through the Belleville area as it makes its way to the opening ceremonies in Toronto for July 10. Her relay leg will begin in West Zwick’s Island Park in Belleville.

Ronan, a Public Health Nurse at Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, has been supporting local schools to increase the opportunities for regular physical activity for more than 10 years. Due to her ongoing support and role modeling of student health and well-being through active living, she was selected as a  torchbearer.

“I am thrilled to be able to carry the Pan Am/Parapan Am torch. We can all be champions for healthy living,” she said.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is encouraging local elementary schools to get involved with the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Kids Programs as a tool to increase physical activity and raise awareness of the benefits of active living.
Elementary schools in the region have received the Pan Am/Parapan Am Activity Day Kit which includes a guide, activity cards and a promotional banner.

Quinte West and 8 Wing/CFB Trenton are inviting area residents to a Pan American Games Torch Relay celebration at the National Air Force Museum of Canada Saturday, July 4th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wing Commander Brigadier-General David Lowthian and Mayor Jim Harrison will welcome the community to a family-oriented outdoor celebration within the Air Park of the museum. The event will feature a fly past by CC130J Hercules aircraft and a variety of musical entertainment including local singer Jeanette Arsenault. The formal part of the event will close with an address by John Smylie, Honorary Colonel for 436 Squadron. A barbecue along with music and children’s activities, will proceed until 1p.m.

  1. Susan says:

Good for Jen and a good choice. But does anyone know what the Pan Am games are or have any interest? Billions more of Ontario tax dollars spent on what? People are struggling to survive. How can we support the $$ going towards this when so many need so much?

  2. Lyn says:

Congratulations. We deserved for all you do.

  3. Congrats Jen!
They couldn’t have found a better torch carrier.
So happy for you and proud to call you my friend.
You, Matt and your sons have contributed so much to the sports and educational programs for the kids in Prince Edward and Hastings County.
