Several County initiatives and a staff member received prestigious honours at the annual Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) Conference and Showcase.
The County-wide Wayfinding Signage Program won the Planning and Strategic Development Award, while the Successful Careers Video Series received the Workforce Development and Resident Attraction Award. The County also received the Community Economic Development Award for its support of the community-driven County Food Hub project.
Rebecca Lamb, Destination Marketing and Development Coordinator, was honoured as the Young Influencer of the Year. During her nearly four years with the municipality, Ms. Lamb has spearheaded several high-profile initiatives related to tourism promotion and resident and investment attraction. A few of her key accomplishments include reimagining the visitor services program, establishing a tourism ambassador training program, and developing a municipally managed tourism website.
“Every day, our team explores fresh ideas for tackling complex problems, and I am pleased that EDCO has recognized this outstanding work,” said Todd Davis, Acting Director of Community Development and Strategic Initiatives. “Rebecca is an extremely talented individual and this honour is much deserved. We value her contributions to destination development and to the municipality as a whole.”
The County-wide Wayfinding Signage Program aims to create a signage family. The program seeks to improve wayfinding signage while maintaining and celebrating the uniqueness and diversity that the County is known for and showcasing the area’s features through the use of materials. The County worked with Form:Media to develop the program.
Successful Careers Video Series tells the stories of people in Prince Edward County who have found meaningful and fulfilling employment in their field.
The Community Development Department worked closely with Career Edge to develop the videos. They were shared online and across social media platforms in order to show the wide range of opportunities available in the County for job seekers who want to pursue a career path of their choice in an in-demand area such as skilled trades, web development, graphic design, and much more.
The County Food Hub is a not-for-profit commercial kitchen within Sophiasburgh Central School. The project offers a model approach to strengthening rural education that makes use of surplus school space to provide educational opportunities for students and social and economic opportunities for local communities. County Council supported the community-driven project with funding and staff resources. The County Food Hub is now open and serving the growing needs of local and regional food producers from professional chefs and cooks to home cooks developing a product along with a diverse array of caterers. The County Food Hub also acts as a catalyst for healthy food education.
