County’s Rafik Jiwa, medalist at Ontario Winter Festival

CHEERS! to the Belleville Youth Swim Team members who competed at the Ontario Winter Festivals, a competition for the best 13 and under swimmers in the province. Coach Brandon Oates reports seven athletes attended, but one didn’t participate (Stephanie Cairns de-qualified). “We placed 12th overall out 40 teams. All athletes brought home at least one medal. The boys team of Alexander Grant, Ryan Jarvis, Isaac Jarvis and Rafik Jiwa, took gold in both freestyle relays and silver in one of the medley relays. Alexander Grant was the lone gold medalist and he also received a silver, while Rafik Jiwa earned one silver and one bronze. Katelyn Cairns and Melissa Dingle each earned one bronze a piece.
