Public Health reports one death related to COVID-19

JULY 26: Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has recorded one more death related to COVID-19 – now 64 deaths since the pandemic began. Nine people are in hospital related to the virus.

In its weekly update, HPEPH reports 128 new high-risk setting cases and 111 active cases. New cases are defined as ones that have been reported since the last dashboard update. Active cases are defined as any case that has been reported and is not yet resolved.

Six outbreaks in high-risk settings continue, including at H.J. McFarland Home in Picton.

UPDATE JULY 21: As of 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022, parents and caregivers of children aged six months to under five years will be able to book appointments for the paediatric COVID vaccine vaccine.

Now in the seventh wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports nine people are in hospital – three require intensive care.

The weekly report indicates 127 new cases in high-risk settings and 106 active high-risk cases. New cases are defined as ones that have been reported since the last dashboard update. Active cases are defined as any case that has been reported and is not yet resolved.

There are seven outbreaks in high-risk settings such as congregate living facilities and long-term care homes – including H.J. McFarland Home in Picton.

Vaccination clinics will be held on Tuesday, July 19 from 1 – 7 p.m. and Wednesday, July 20 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street). You may book an appointment in advance for these clinics. Go online to book or call the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1.833.943.3900. Walk-ins may be accepted depending on vaccine availability.

UPDATE JULY 18 – Today’s pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinic originally scheduled for Roblin Lake Park will move inside to the Ameliasburgh Town Hall (13 Coleman Street) from 2 -4 pm. due to the rain. The clinic at the skate park in Picton continues from 10:30 to 12:30 – also moved indoors.

JULY 13: There were 103 new high-risk cases and seven outbreaks in high-risk settings reported over the past week in Hastings Prince Edward counties. Two people are in hospital related to the virus.

The next COVID-19 pop-up clinics in the County are July 13 at Rossmore Stop from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and on Monday, July 18 at the skateboard park in Picton from 10:30 to 12:30 and at Roblin Lake Park from 2-4 p.m. UPDATE:

Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health, is to provide an update Wednesday morning on the province’s rapid antigen test program and expanding access to fourth doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

JULY 5: With a slow creep upward in the province of COVID-19 positive tests, hospitalizations and wastewater data, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, in its now weekly update, indicates 59 new COVID-19 cases in high-risk settings, and 51 active cases.

New cases are defined as ones that have been reported since the last dashboard update. Active cases are defined as any case that has been reported and is not yet resolved.

Three people currently require hospitalization. There are two outbreaks ongoing – in long-term care settings in Belleville and Centre Hastings. Two suspected cases at H.J. McFarland Home are not recorded.

There are 585 people in hospital in Ontario testing positive for the virus, up from 486 a week earlier.

In May, Dr. Kieran Moore, the province’s chief medical officer of health, predicted there would be higher transmission rate in the fall as people head back indoors. But since, there has been fast growth rate of the BA.5 Omicron variant.

As discussions begin to ramp up fourth vaccines, Ontario’s COVID-19 science advisory table says there are still many people without a third dose – ahead of a potential fall wave.

Third doses are available for all aged 12 and up, while fourth doses are currently offered to those age 60 and over, as well as those 18 and up who are First Nation, Inuit or Metis.

Provincial data indicates just 57 per cent of Ontarians have had the third dose.

In Hastings Prince Edward, 60 per cent of residents over age 12 have received a third dose while 42 per cent has received a fourth vaccination. HPEPH reports 87 per cent of the region has received two doses; 93 per cent has received one dose.
