Dark scoreboards in light weekend of Kings action over Thanksgiving

It was a light weekend for the County Kings as Thanksgiving interrupted usual Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Associations activities.

U13 Terra Vistra Kings forwards Henry Lavender and Ronald Norman are denied by the Campbellford goaltender.

The Campbellford Colts arrived in Wellington Saturday afternoon at a full gallop and the U13 Terra Vista Kings had more than they could handle trying to wrangle the Ponies.

Kings netminder Aiden Hebert was under fire right from puck drop and didn’t have much help trying to keep Campbellford in check in a 6-0 setback.

Riley Davidson had one of the goals for the U15 Heidelberg Kings Saturday afternoon.

A tough, two minute stretch of hockey near the end of the second period was the U15 Heidelberg Materials Kings undoing on Saturday in their home contest against Bancroft.

Despite holding much of the territorial play in the opening frame, the Kings trailed the Jets 1-0 after the opening 15 minutes.

In the second, the Kings hit the scoresheet when Lucas Copeland teed up Tristan Grant’s blast 1:58 into the frame to draw even at 1-1. The Jets responded with a goal in the ninth minute. The Kings looked quick to counter only to be foiled by Bancroft stopper Cohen Bodden time and again.

The Jets started skating down hill late in the second and made it a 5-1 game before intermission.

The Kings got within shouting distance early in the third. Preston Ellsworth set up Riley Davidson at 11:25 to make it a 5-2 game. But there was no stopping the high flying Jets on this day as a Quinlan Kilner hat trick effort powered the visitors to an 8-2 lead.

The Kings managed to beat the buzzer with a Ben Markland tally inside the final 30 seconds.

The U18 Prinzen Ford Kings finally opened their season in Millbrook on Friday night and special teams powered the locals to a 2-2 draw with the host Stars.

Down 2-0 with under two minutes left in the second, Kings blue liner Trent Bucknell sprang speedster Drake Wight on a shorthanded attempt that the Wellington native capitalized on with 1:23 left in the stanza.

The Kings bagged the only goal of the third and it was a Bucknell blast with the man advantage at the 7:30 that squared the affair at 2-2.

Jack Lavender was solid in the Kings mesh mansion early, facing nearly 20 Stars shots, keeping Milbrook at bay as the locals picked up a valuable road point. The U18 Prinzen Ford Kings are back in action on Oct. 23rd as they help kick off the 15th annual Milk Up Tournament in Prince Edward County.
