Dehumidifiers recalled due to fire risk

Nearly half a million dehumidifiers sold under various brand names are being recalled in Canada due to a risk of overheating and catching fire.
Health Canada has issued a voluntary recall, along with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission – involving more than 2.5 million of the appliances made by the New Widetech company,but sold under various brand names, including Amana, Danby, De’Lonhi, Haier, Honeywell, Whirlpool and more.
The units, in a variety of sizes, were sold between February 2009 and August 2017 at retailers including Lowe’s, Walmart and Costco.
In Canada there have been two reports of fire or smoke damage to property.
Consumers are to contact New Widetech for a refund which will be pro-rated based on the age of the appliance.

Definitely check the link to the recall website. The list for Canada is different than the list for the USA. Ours has a number of Danby models, an Aeon Aire and a Delonghi. The US list is longer. The link also allows you to check your specific model to see if it is included.
