Launched last year in celebration of Ontario Public Library Week, the show featured a wonderful collection of works that delighted and even surprised visitors in its breadth of talent and originality.

The artworks are created from books from the library that have been damaged or are outdated and destined to be recycled.

“This was such a unique and successful show last year,” says PEC  library CEO Barbara Sweet, “and we are very much looking forward to seeing what will be created this year.“ Last year’s event raised $741 for both the library and Authors’ Festival.

There were imaginative collages, sculptures including a more than five foot high tepee created entirely of books, cakes made from books, a life-size gown, delicately crafted figures, jewellery, and many other inspired creations.

Show founder Christine Renaud says this year’s exhibition will feature the work of more than 20 artists working in various media including sculpture, painting, collage, and functional pieces such as lamps, furniture and jewelry.

Opening night is Saturday October 19 at 7 p.m. The show and sale runs throughout Ontario Public Library Week Oct. 20-26 upstairs at Books & Company, Main Street, Picton. A People’s Choice Award winner will be announced on Oct. 25.
