Do you have one hour to help the PEC Hospital Auxiliary?

Would you be interested in working just one hour/week to assist on the inpatient ward ? That’s all it will take… just one hour.

Volunteers are needed to assist the patients with the set up of their dinner meal trays that are delivered to the rooms by the kitchen staff.

This service is arranged by the PECMH Auxiliary at the hospital’s dinnertime meal hour which is approximately 4:30-5:30 pm.

Volunteers visit the patient rooms and remove lids from food/drink containers, poke straws into juice boxes, prepare coffee/tea mugs with sugar/cream etc.
Some lively conversation with patients is also much appreciated and helps them on the road to recovery.

If interested, new volunteers can also be trained to work the mid-day shift which involves visiting with patients and offering a variety of activities such as crossword puzzles, word search, novels, colouring, newspapers and magazines to read. Friendly conversation is a big part of the volunteer’s job.

If you are an outgoing individual that would be interested in getting further details about volunteering in the PECM Hospital, please contact the Auxiliary Recruitment manager at the following email address and provide your phone number where you can be reached.

Other opportunies are also available. Do you have an hour or two you can spare each week to brighten someone’s day at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital?

Friendly people who would like to chat and visit and spread a little cheer with hospital patients (either in-patient or out-patient) are invited to volunteer with the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

What are the jobs in the hospital you could do?

1) You can be a friendly visitor on the in-patient unit, distributing magazines, newspapers, crosswords etc. Take time to chat with any patients who are looking for some company. Help patients get the containers on their lunch trays open. All these little things mean so much to the patients. OR

2) You can be a Greeter at the entrance door(s) to the hospital.. You will guide visitors to the correct area of the hospital (Xray, Emergency department, Dialysis Department, in-patient unit). OR

3) You can be friendly visitor in the out-patient unit such as Dialysis where patients come 3X a week for their treatment. Some like to have a cold or hot drink brought to them. Some want to have a chat with a volunteer.
