Eat Smart Kale salads recalled

Eat Smart brand Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Bag Kits have been recalled due to possible Listeria contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued the recall Sunday for affected products in 340 gram bags sold in Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Labrador and possibly other parts of the country.

Products with a best before date of Feb. 16 2019 may contain harmful bacteria.

The recall was triggered by CFIA test results and a food safety investigation is being conducted – which may lead to other products being recalled.

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor. Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms,
