CHEERS! to Sandra and George Emlaw, of South Bay, who were inducted into the Quinte Agricultural Hall of Fame last weekend at Farmtown Park in Stirling.
The induction honours people who have made an outstanding contribution to the agriculture and food industry. They were nominated by the Prince Eward Federation of Agriculture for their work on the dairy farm and in the community.
The Emlaws are proud seventh generation United Empire Loyalists and have been dairy farmers in Prince Edward County since 1962.
George was an early adaptor of haylage, a milking parlour and slurry manure storage. Sandra taught school, is active with Milford Fair and the UCW and also works on the farm. She is president of the Prince Edward County Junior Farmers and a supporter and leader with the 4H Assocation. The two are also involved in the church.
George was a founding member of Prince Edward Dairy Improvement Association, a Federation of Agriculture member, local Committee Chairman for the Canadian Food Grain Bank. He was a 15-year president of the Black River Cheese co-operative, which he worked with for 40 years.
