Everybody needs a pass to get into Sandbanks Provincial Park

Sandbanks Provincial Park began the weekend with more than 400 camping arrivals Friday and expects extended lineups due to volume of visitors, and a new entry system, this weekend.

The new pilot project reservation system is now under way. For anybody hoping to visit the park – registration online or by telephone is required – even for those with a season’s pass.

Effective Saturday, June 12, a seasonal/annual pass is only considered a valid permit with a printed day use reservation displayed beside it. Park wardens will be monitoring beach entrances and parking lots regularly to ensure valid permits are displayed.

Day use permits ensure entry into the park but do not guarantee a spot at a specific beach. Beaches will fill first-come, first-served and are subject to capacity limits.

All day use vehicles will be required to check-in at one of the registration offices (Main Gate or the West Lake campground office).

The park advises that when reserving online, to ensure the number of occupants and licence plate details are entered correctly. Park staff at Sandbanks are not able to change licence plate numbers over the phone.

People previously used to using one of the self serve pay and display machines are advised they will not be in operation effective Saturday June 12.

To make a reservation (up to five days in advance), visit https://reservations.ontarioparks.com/

The reason I buy a season’s pass isn’t because it is the most economical. It’s because I don’t have to stop at the entrance to Outlet Beach. This will create unnecessary and long lineups. That, plus the hassle of getting a daypass makes Outlet a nonstarter for me.

Dumb! This system has to be the dumbest system ever! I’ve had multiple people say they just reserve every day they can and have no intention of being here for most of the reserved days. Taking up spots that could be used for others to enjoy our beaches.this system has to end. The whole county is going to see a decline of tourist revenue and it isn’t going to fix the issues it was intended to.
