Fall Countylicious brings a commitment to local

Jason Collens Noll, GM and assistant winemaker, with winemaker Amy Baldwin, from Waupoos Estates Winery and Chef Nathan Coventry from The Claramount are among County restaurants welcoming diners for this fall’s Countylicious event.

Fourteen of the County’s finest restaurants will show diners how to savour local flavours this month as the fall Countylicious event gets under way.

The 14 – the highest number of restaurants participating to date – will offer three-course meals at a fixed price of $40 per person from Nov. 3-26.

The restaurants are showing their commitment to local, as Prince Edward County chefs have crafted menus inspired by local ingredients to help diners experience farm-to-table where it isn’t a movement, but a way of life.

They’re celebrating the seasons by working with local farmers, fishers, winemakers, brewers, beekeepers, bakers, picklers and producers who work year-round to keep glasses and plates filled. A list of local growers and producers the restaurants work with regularly is online at countylicious.com, as are the menus they will be presenting for Countylicious.

“The relationship between chefs and local farmers, producers, winemakers, brewers, cheesemakers and more is so important,” said Lee Arden Lewis, owner of the Public School House at Jackson’s Falls. “Year-round, locally-made products are readily available and nothing makes me prouder and happier than when I see locally grown and locally produced items on the plates and in the glasses of our dinner guests. This is what Countylicious is truly about – a celebration of local food”

Meanwhile, in an effort to support food security locally, $1 from each Countylicious plate sold during the first week of the promotion (up to $500), will be donated to Food to Share – a local organization that distributes produce and prepared food through the food banks and other local organizations.

“In our bountiful County everyone should have enough to eat. Using locally grown produce donated by County farmers, Food to Share cooks up fresh and nutritious meals for people in need. Food to Share is thrilled to be working with Countylicious and appreciates the support,” said Glen Wallis from food to Share.

Over the four-week promotion, weeknight diners (Sunday – Thursday) will be randomly selected at each of the 14 participating restaurants and they’ll be treated to their Countylicious dinner-for-two, on the house.

Countylicious is a twice-annual celebration of local food and fine dining in Prince Edward County.

Participating restaurants include: Agrarian, Amelia’s Garden (Waring House), Clara’s (Claramount Inn), East and Main Bistro, The Courage, Merrill Inn, Portabella, Pomodoro, Public School House at Jackson’s Falls, Soup Opera, The Drake Devonshire and The Hubb (at Angeline’s), Gazebo Restaurant (Waupoos Estates Winery) and Hartley’s Tavern (Picton). Menus are available online at countylicious.com
