Family arrested in $45,000 drug seizure

A family of four will face drug-related charges after an OPP raid yesterday.
“On July 30, 2014 at 9:30am the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) with the assistance of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County detachment and OPP Canine executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence located on Diverbelt Drive, Picton,” said Constable Anthony Mann, in a statement.
He said OPP seized a quantity of marijuana with an approximate street value of $45,000. Police also seized related paraphernalia and cash.
A 48 year old Picton man is charged with:
• Possession of Schedule III Substance, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
• Possession For the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
His wife, 45, of Picton, is charged with Possession For the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Both were held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville today.
A 62-year-old male relative and 20-year old female relative, both of Ottawa, ON were charged with Possession For the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Both were released from police custody on a Promise to Appear and Officer-In-Charge Undertaking to attend the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton on August 20, 2014.
