Federal election campaign to officially kick-off Wednesday

Bay of Quinte federal riding candidates, from left, are: Liberal: Neil Ellis (current MP), Conservative: Tim Durkin, NDP: Stephanie Bell, Green: Danny Celovsky, The People’s Party: Paul Bordonaro

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will visit Rideau Hall Tuesday morning to formally ask Gov.-Gen. Julie Payette to dissolve Parliament, setting the stage for Canada’s 43rd general election, on Oct. 21.

Informally, the campaign has been well under way for months throughout all 338 ridings coast-to-coast. The official start brings strict rules around spending and advertising.

The Liberals are seeking a second four-year mandate, citing accomplishments on job creation, Indigenous relations and child poverty, while facing criticism over the SNC-Lavalin ethics breach.

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer and the NDP’s Jagmeet Singh are mounting their first campaigns as party leaders.

The Green Party Leader Elizabeth May hopes to build on the party’s two seats in the House. The new People’s Party of Canada, under leader Maxime Bernier is hoping to hold his own seat and bring new MPs to Parliament under his party’s banner.

Anne King, since the election campaign doesn’t officially start until today, I’m not surprised you haven’t heard about them. But I hope you will be paying attention over the next few weeks so you can make an informed decision on Election Day.

I’ve already had a candidate come to my door!

have not heard a word or read anything about this riding as to who is running for any party. Feeling like I should pay as much attention to them as they have to me….
