Federal funding supports local Royal Canadian Legions

Neil Ellis, Bay of Quinte MP

Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis announced $65,070 in funding to help local Royal Canadian Legions with their operational costs, so they can continue providing support for veterans in need.

The Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund is part of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan designed to help protect jobs, provide emergency support and keep businesses afloat through the pandemic.

“Organizations such as Royal Canadian Legions play a critical role in the well-being of Veterans, their families and the community,” said Ellis.

Each of Prince Edward County’s three Legions – In Picton, Wellington and Consecon – will receive $10,845.05. Legions in Belleville, Trenton and Frankford will also receive $10,845.05.

In November, the federal government provided $14 million to the Royal Canadian Legion’s Dominion Command to allow for the rapid distribution of financial support / aid to individual branches across the country. Dominion Command was responsible for determining which branches would receive funding.

Organizations receiving these funds will have access to the support they need to replace charitable and other revenue lost because of the pandemic, and will be able to continue their work with veterans and their families during a time when it is needed most.

“Our Royal Canadian Legions provide such vital services, support, and community to our veterans. Especially with the challenges of 2020, and the resourcefulness they have shown as they continue operating, this funding acknowledges the important work of these organizations and individuals, and we continue to recognize their critical role in the Bay of Quinte,” said Ellis.
