Fewer disruptions to foot care thanks to Stark Family Fund

A client of the Prince Edward Community Care foot care program receives treatment from a nurse who is using the debriding machine funded through the Stark Family Fund.

Seniors in Prince Edward County will see fewer disruptions to foot care thanks to a grant from the Stark Family Fund to purchase an additional debriding machine (which takes debris away as it is filed from the client).

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association was thankful for the funding received from the Stark Family Fund this year in support its foot care program.

“The agency’s debriding machines receive heavy use, often being down for maintenance. Having another machine means Community Care can deploy it when there’s a breakdown so that clinics don’t have to be cancelled,” said Debbie MacDonald Moynes, the association’s executive director. “In this way there won’t be any interruption to this vital service for seniors.”

Community Care has more than 800 foot care clients and eight foot care nurses. Most clients see a nurse every six weeks at one of three clinic locations in Picton, Wellington and Rossmore.

The Stark Family Fund program, held within The Community Foundation for Kingston and Area, provides grants each year to support charitable organizations in Prince Edward County. Funding is made possible through the bequests of the Stark sisters, of Bloomfield.

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association also offers services such as hot and frozen Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments, curbside pick-up meals for seniors, respite, home maintenance including snow shoveling, rural route reassurance, telephone reassurance programs, grocery delivery and a full range of active living programs.

The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry for Seniors & Accessibility, the County, and is supported by donations and community fundraising efforts, such as Community Care’s Thrift Shop at 153 Main St., Picton The Community Care office is located at 74 King Street in Picton.
