Fire Chief lifts partial burn ban

UPDATE OCT 19 – The partial burn ban issued yesterday has been lifted by PEC Fire Chief Scott Manlow. Open air burning is allowed.
A burn permit is required for all open air burning.  Residents can apply for an annual burn permit by visiting Fire Station 1 at 8 McDonald Drive in Picton, Shire Hall at 332 Picton Main Street, or at any County Library.  You can find a full list of County libraries online at www.PECLibrary.org/locations/.  Burn permits cost $15 and expire at the end of the calendar year (Dec. 31^st, 2016).
OCT. 18 – Prince Edward County Fire Chief Scott Manlow has issued a partial burn ban throughout the County Tuesday in response to increasing wind conditions.

Though warm today at 22 degrees and feeling like 27, wind at 35 km/h is expected with gusts of up to 62km/h this afternoon and evening.

Under the partial burn ban, residents and visitors can still use burn barrels with screen tops and can have small campfires.

Manlow evaluates weather and ground conditions to determine the necessity of a burn ban. When conditions improve, the ban will be updated.
