Fire damage to shed and garage estimated at $50,000

Firefighters from Carrying Place, Consecon and Ameliasburgh arrived to a fully involved structure fire that consumed a shed and extended into a nearby garage.

Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue had responded to the blaze Sunday, Jan. 21 at about 2:32 p.m. on Harbard Road, off Gardenville Road.

The cause has been determined as accidental.

Fire Chief Chad Brown reports there were no injuries, and the damage to the shed and garage is estimated at $50,000.

Firefighters were also able to prevent damage to a residential structure in close proximity to the fire.

“Cold winter temperatures are now upon us, so this is also a great time to remind everyone to dispose of their fireplace ashes in a safe place outside and ensure they are extinguished,” said Brown, adding residents should ensure they have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
