Firefighters, Royal Purple help Light the Way for Hospice

The “Lighting The Way” quest is to raise $875,000 was assisted by two community organizations last week. Funds are being sought in a community campaign to complete renovations and develop residential hospice programming at the new 40 Downes Ave., Picton location.

Hospice Prince Edward offers compassionate, end-of-life support to clients of all ages and their caregivers, free of charge, in their own homes, hospital and long-term care facilities.  The three-bed residential hospice will provide end-of-life care for clients (and their families) who can no longer, or do not wish to die at home, and do not need acute care available in hospital.

Parks thanked the Royal Purple and the Picton Firefighters Association for their contributions to the Lighting The Way Community Campaign.

“We are so grateful to the generous individuals and community groups who have been helping us in achieving our goal of expanding palliative end-of-life care services in Prince Edward County,” she said. “Our target date for the opening of the new Community Residential Hospice Home is in June, 2013.”

Royal-Purple-HospiceA fundraising luncheon bridge afternoon hosted by members of the Royal Purple of Canada Picton branch #147 raised $625 for Hospice Prince Edward. The group holds two fundraisers a year to raise funds for worthwhile causes in the community. For the luncheon bridge, members supply the lunch to defer costs and 16 tables of four players enjoyed a few hours of bridge games. Firefighters-Assoc.-HospiceThe Picton Fire Fighters Association presented $500 to Hospice Prince Edward’s Lighting the Way Campaign. The team challenges the County’s other fire halls to match the donation they realized from the annual Christmas tree sale.
