Firefighters want families to ‘Push the Button!’

tvopushbuttonTVOKids and the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) are asking families to ‘Push the Button’ to test smoke alarms in their homes.

The ‘Push the Button’ campaign, intended to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of fire, begins on Monday, Feb. 23 and ends on March 8.

Throughout the campaign, kids are encouraged to push the test button on smoke alarms in their home to hear if the alarms are working. After they ‘Push the Button’ they are encouraged to go to http://www.tvokids.com/features/pushbutton and enter the number of alarms they have tested. The number will be added to TVOKids ‘Push the Button!’ counter. Kids will also be able to print a special ‘Push the Button’ certificate.

During the campaign, TVOKids.com has added an online and interactive fire safety game for children 11 and under. Hot Spot or Not encourages players to identify fire safety hazards in a house or apartment, room by room.
