8 Wing CFB Trenton’s 424 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron will be conducting search and rescue (SAR) flare training over Grimsthorpe Lake, west of Bon Echo Provincial Park Feb. 7 to Feb. 8. If that range is unusable due to lack of snow cover, the Brighton Range will be used – encompassing an area of Lake Ontario, south of Brighton and west of Prince Edward County.

In the area during this time, a C-130 Hercules will be launching yellow-white flares from an altitude no higher than 5500 ft. above sea level.

The training is in support of nighttime SAR missions and allows 424 Squadron to practice night flying and spotting procedures. This training is not expected to pose a disturbance to the community.
