Flood warnings continue for PEC and area

A flood warning remains in effect for Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte from Quinte West to Napanee and all of Prince Edward County.

Following reports from the International Lake Ontario – St. Lawrence River Board, Quinte Conservation Water Resources Manager Christine McClure said water levels on Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte have declined over 30 centimetres since the lake peaked on May 29th.

“However, they are still significantly high for this time of year. Lake Ontario water levels are expected to decline over the summer and into the fall.”

Shoreline residents are reminded that any work near the water will require a permit from Quinte Conservation and they should call the office or visit the website for more information.

“Shoreline erosion is possible due to high water levels combined with strong winds and waves. We remind residents that any work along the shoreline requires a permit from Quinte Conservation. Our staff are available to visit properties and assist with recommendations for shoreline protection options.”

Quinte Conservation staff continue to monitor conditions and expect the warning to be in effect until (or updated before) Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017.
