More than $1 million has been pledged to the Toronto’s People With Aids (PWA) Foundation during this year’s Friends for Life Bike Rally.
There were 101 volunteers cheering on 202 cyclists on their 600 kilometre journey from Toronto to Montreal for this week’s 17th annual event.
Many stopped at Schroedter’s Farm Market outside Picton where Suzanne Schroedter offered watermelon and drinks in support of the cause, as she has done for the past 15 years.
This year’s quest finished Friday in Montreal.
The PWA Foundation helps provide critical services and support to people living with HIV/AIDS. Many of the cyclists are HIV positive. Participants range in age from 17 to 78. About a third are LGBTQ.
More than 30,000 people have tested positive for HIV since 1985 – almost two thirds of them from Toronto.
