Giving will help all those receiving state-of-the-art health care

At the official opening of Picton hospital's new donor recognition wall, auxiliary members presented a $100,000 donation toward the digital mammography and ultrasound equipment campaign. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 78 Picton, the Picton Elks and Marion Smith also presented donations.

The hectic Christmas season can be anything but jolly for Prince Edward County residents focused on ailing health of loved ones. But in the true nature of the season, giving will help those who need to receive state-of-the-art health care at Picton hospital.

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation unveiled a new donor recognition wall Wednesday at Picton hospital’s patient registration area in tribute to the generosity of people who donate money to advance health care in the County.

“This unveiling ceremony is an event that honours your generous contributions,” said Larry Matheson, president of the PECMH Foundation. “This is also a celebration of the accomplishment by a community that works together to respond to the needs of our doctors, nurses and technologists for state-of-the-art medical equipment.”

Lanny and Catharine Huff examine the new donor wall at Picton hospital, designed as a tribute to people who help raise funds for healthcare needs. Born and raised in the County, the Huffs are proud supporters of Picton hospital.

Name plates affixed to the wall recognize a donor’s accumulated lifetime giving since 1999, to the present, and pledges into the future. The donor wall is a lasting way to say thank you to those who have given $5,000 or more to the hospital foundation. Donors who have cumulatively given between $1,000 and $4,999.99 are recognized on a new LED screen. No specific donation amount is associated with any name on the wall.

Plaques may be in the names of individuals, families, service organizations, foundations or companies. They will also be made in honour of an individual or an endowment fund.

Quinte Healthcare President and CEO Mary Clare Egberts said the new donor wall helps “to recognize everyone who makes a difference to our community. We thank you because we couldn’t do it without you.”

Donations of any amount are welcome as the foundation continues its campaign to raise $750,000 for digital mammography and ultrasound equipment.
County residents are being asked to help the foundation decorate its Christmas tree with pink ribbons in honour of those who have fought a and continue to fight the battle of cancer. The community is also invited to a tree decorating ceremony at the front of the hospital Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.
