What was supposed to be a fun-filled experience turned out to be a day of tragedy for Javaughn Black and his family.
The seven-year-old drowned Saturday at Sandbanks Provincial Park. It was his first time to leave Jamaica to travel outside the island. He was in Canada visiting his mother Sherrie, and sister Jhonelle, 15.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the family to raise $10,000 to help with the costs of returning the boy’s to home to Jamaica.
“Every effort was made to revive Javaughn by emergency responders including an off duty ER doctor that happened to be at the beach with her own family,” the Go Fund Me Page states. “45 minutes after arriving at Prince Edward Memorial Hospital doctors gave the horrible news that Javaughn was gone.
“Not only is Sherrie traumatized by the loss of her only son, but is now faced with the unexpected cost of having to transport Javaughn’s body back to Jamaica. Let’s help Sherrie by raising as much funds as possible so she can bring her baby home and lay him to rest.”
Prince Edward OPP report the Office of the Chief Coroner was notified and is continuing with the investigation with a post-mortem scheduled for July 23. The death is not considered suspicious.
