On-air for health care raises $95,000

Quinte residents supported medical equipment needs at Quinte Health Care to the tune of $95,000 during Thursday’s On Air for Health Care radioathon – and the donations are still coming in.

“The overwhelming support of our eight local radio stations and their on air personalities broadcasting live from the Bay of Quinte Golf and Country Club brought the community together to champion our cause,”  said Anna Marie Ferguson, of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation. “The deejays truly proved they were the voice of a caring community.”

More than 120 volunteers were on site from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  answering telephones, taking pledges and assisting with tabulating totals. “Their friendly competition racing to answer calls added to the excitement of the day and their hard work helped the radiothon run smoothly,” said Ferguson. “The Bay of Quinte Golf and Country Club is to be commended for providing their site for us to broadcast from as well as donating green fees collected yesterday. McDonald’s Belleville and Trenton provided snacks for our volunteers and Phil Panelas treated our volunteers to a delicious barbecue lunch.

“Special thanks go to all who pledged their support to Quinte Health Care. Thank you to those who issued and met pledge challenges in the community and those who ran third-party events in support of On Air For Health Care and the various organizations who donated Power Hour prizes including McDonald’s Trenton, Belleville Bulls, CFB Trenton, Watts Your Fancy and Bayview Golf Club.”

There’s still time to pledge. Visit the website at www.onairforhealthcare.ca or visit any of the Hospital Foundation offices.

Tune in to any local radio station on Thursday, October 7, as the QHC goes On Air For Health Care to support medical equipment needs for Belleville, Picton and Trenton hospitals. The three hospital foundations have teamed up with all eight local radio stations to raise $250,000 for the purchase of Colonoscopes, an Argon Plasma Coagulator and a Bone Density Machine for patients in Quinte and Prince Edward County.
Listen to any local station between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to hear how our hospitals are making a difference each and every day to our patients. The event is being broadcast live from the Bay of Quinte Golf Club and the public is welcome to visit to see more 120 volunteers in action throughout the day answering phones and taking pledges.

Bay of Quinte Golf and Country Club is donating proceeds from all green fees collected on Oct. 7 to the radiothon. McDonald’s of Belleville and Trenton are donating $1.00 from every Big Mac, and Subway in Picton is donating $1.00 from every foot long and $0.50 cents from every six inch sub sold on the day of the radiothon. As well, there are many other corporate challenges in place that will be announced throughout the day on Oct. 7.
