Golfers raise funds ‘fore’ hospital foundations

Scotia-1

This past September, Scotiabank Ontario Central East division held its inaugural golf tournament at Black Bear Ridge Golf Course in support of the hospital foundations in its region. The tournament raised more than $40,000 in its first year to be split among the hospital foundations in the Eastern division of Ontario, including Northumberland Hills Hospital, Brockville General Hospital, Kingston Hospitals and Quinte Health Care’s four hospitals.  The PECMH Foundation was proud to receive $2,500 as its portion of the $10,000, which will be directed toward the purchase of a telemetry unit, used for cardiac monitoring on the inpatient unit at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.

“Having up-to-date cardiac monitoring equipment allows the physicians of PECMH to manage patients we would otherwise need to transfer to another hospital directly from the emergency department,” said Don Koval, division head for medicine at Picton. “We can safely monitor their cardiac condition, send them on to Kingston within the next day or two for further assessment, and often return them either to PECMH or directly home. The majority of their stay is therefore with familiar caregivers and closer to home,” he added.
