Habs alumni to play County greats

Montreal Canadiens alumni will take to the ice at the Wellington and District Community Centre to play a team made up of County Greats on Sunday, March 4 – and they’re looking for a few locals to join their team.
Coached by Guy LaFleur, the alumni team may include Patrice Brisebois, Stephane Richer, Sergio Momesso and many more.
The Habs are also looking for some locals to join their team for the day, in particular one forward, one defenceman and a trainer. To have one of these top line positions you can bid in an on-line auction. Log onto www.pecmontrealalumnigame.ca and place your bid to play or help out the bench staff.  Bidding will close Feb. 27 at 4pm. The winning bidders will be contacted afterward with the details of the game.
“If being on the team isn’t for you, that’s OK,” said Recreation, Parks and Culture (RPC) Commissioner Barry Braun. “You can get involved as a sponsor for the event or just come out to see some great hockey. Mayor Mertens will drop the puck at 2:00 p.m.”
The Game Sponsor comes at a cost of $2,000. Period sponsors, power play, penalty kill sponsors and bench sponsors are $300 each. Information on the sponsorship program and the benefits of each level can be found at www.pecounty.on.ca.
The Habs schedule for their day in the County includes a Meet & Greet Brunch with their County opposition at 11 am. From 11:30am-12:30pm, the Habs will be available for autographs and photos.
This event is limited to VIP tickets holders only. The doors to the arena will open at 1pm for general admission ticket holders. Warm up will be at 1:30pm with the game at 2pm. The game consists of three 15-minute straight time periods, with activities/entertainment taking place between periods.
One hundred VIP tickets are available for $40 each. These are available at the Recreation Parks and Culture Office at 72 King St. only. General Admission tickets are $20 each. They are available at Scott’s Store (Lake St. Picton), County Treasures Galore (Main St. Bloomfield), Nash’s Home Hardware (Main St. Wellington), The Rossmore Stop (Rossmore) or at the Recreation, Parks and Culture Department office at
72 King St. Picton. Tickets are also available at the Picton and Wellington arena canteens when open for games.  Tickets are limited – should be purchased in advance.
For further information on the sponsorships, players, auction and tickets visit www.pecmontrealalumnigame.ca or call RPC at 613.476.2148, extensions 421, 424 or 428. Proceed
from the game will be going to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Funding program and the Wellington & District
Community Centre.
“Don’t miss this opportunity to see Hockey’s Greatest Stars in Prince Edward County,” said Mayor  Mertens. “Thanks to the Recreation, Parks and Culture staff and the volunteers who worked together to make this happen. What a great way to showcase our new facility and the County!”

When will the roster for the County Greats be released? Will the event be streamed on the net for those of us now out west? Sure hope so. It looks like it’ll be a gas!
