Have your say to reduce red tape

Daryl Kramp, Member of Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings, welcomes today’s announcement by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Minister of State, Rob Moore of the creation of the Red Tape Reduction Commission, which is to reduce the burden of federal regulatory requirements on Canadian enterprises, especially small- and medium-sized businesses.

“Small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of our economy”, said Kramp. “Initiatives which reduce or remove costly and time-consuming barriers to prosperity and job growth are beneficial not only to business owners but to all Canadians across the nation.”

The Red Tape Reduction Commission, chaired by Moore, is to help find effective and lasting solutions to support Canadian small- and medium-sized businesses.  It will consult with Canadians and Canadian businesses to identify irritants that have a clear detrimental effect on growth, competitiveness and innovation.  The Commission will also look at the cost associated with federal regulatory requirements that businesses face, and provide advice on permanent solutions for reducing the overall compliance burden.

The Commission will hold consultations with Canadians and Canadian businesses during a series of round tables later this month. An online consultation process will also take place (www.reduceredtape.gc.ca) before the Commission issues its recommendations to the Government in the fall of 2011.

“I wish to thank the many local business owners who have met with me and brought forward their suggestions and I would like to also encourage them to get involved in the online consultation process”, said Kramp. “Their experience and knowledge will help the Commission identify the best ways to reduce red tape”.
