Hot, now smoky, weather continues

Deer at the Sandbanks Provincial Park get some relief from breezes off the lake

Environment Canada has added a poor air quality statement mixed in with ongoing extreme heat in the region.

Smoke from forest fires over Northern Ontario may drift down causing poor air quality and in some cases reduced visibility. This is forecast to persist through Monday and into Tuesday for some areas.

Some people may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious, but less common symptoms, include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.

The prolonged period of extreme heat and humidity also continues this week with daytime highs of 29 to 32 degrees C and a humidex of 35 to 40. Overnight lows of 19 to 23 degrees C provide little relief.

Monday is expected to to be sunny and hazy with a high of 30 and humidex of 37. The overnight low is expected to be 20. Sunshine continues on Tuesday with a high of 31 and overnight low of 20.

Wednesday’s forecast of a high of 32 and includes a 30 per cent chance of showers. Thursday’s forecast is a 60 per cent chance of showers with a high of 30.
