Hwy. 401 road rage ends in take down at Sandbanks

A road rage incident that began on the 401 west of Cobourg culminated later in the day with a high risk take down at the Sandbanks Provincial Park at about 5p.m. Sunday.

Prince Edward OPP report two vehicles travelling eastbound on the 401 at about 1 p.m. engaged in a road rage exchange when one vehicle allegedly cut off another. The victim gestured at the suspect vehicle which prompted an occupant in the suspect vehicle to throw garbage out the window at the victim’s vehicle.  The victim exited the 401 at Cobourg, but the suspect vehicle also exited and confronted the victims on the off-ramp resulting in a heated verbal exchange.  During the exchange one of the suspects jumped on the victim’s car and the suspect driver threatened to shoot the victims with a gun that he indicated he had under his shirt.

A third vehicle with friends of the suspects arrived at the scene causing a distraction for the suspects and giving the victims the opportunity to flee the area and call police.

A broadcast was made to all surrounding police services with descriptors for the two suspect vehicles and their occupants.

Just before 5pm Prince Edward OPP officers patrolling the Sandbanks Provincial Park spotted the two suspect vehicles in the parking lot, however, the suspects were not seen.  With the assistance of the Park Wardens the suspects were located on the beach.  Members of the East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) were called in to execute a high risk take down of all the suspects.  A gun was not found on the suspects or in their vehicles.

Arrested and charged were:  Dwight Wisdom, 30, of Scarborough who faces Assault, Uttering Threats and Mischief charges. Julieta Gonzalez, 24, of Scarborough who faces Mischief charges. Jean Marseille, 28, of Toronto who faces a Breach of Recognizance charge.
