An investigation is under way into a fire early Tuesday morning that destroyed the canteen and washrooms near the ball diamond at Roblin Lake in Ameliasburgh.
Prince Edward County Fire Chief Scott Manlow said the department was notified at about 6:30 a.m. and upon arrival, firefighters found the building had been burning for awhile.
“All that’s left is the cement blocks,” said Manlow. “The building was fully engulfed when we arrived.”
Damages could be estimated around $60,000 as the building had two washrooms, running water and electricity.
The investigation also involves the Prince Edward OPP detachment.
Constable Connor Durkin said Prince Edward County detachment officers, along with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) were called to investigate the suspicious fire at about 9:20 a.m.
The fire, he said, is believed to have been started sometime between 4 and 6a.m.
The OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation and the Ontario Fire Marshall has been notified.
