The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) out of 8 Wing Trenton will conduct a major disaster response joint exercise near Point Petre scheduled from Wednesday, Oct. 23 to Oct. 24.
The exercise will involve a CC-130J Hercules aircraft and a CH-146 Griffon helicopter, both from 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron, as well as other aircraft from Canadian civilian agencies and the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
“The exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability between military and civilian partners during major disaster response situations,” said Captain Hrayr Karageozian, 8 Wing Trenton Public Affairs Officer. “This type of exercise helps prepare our teams to respond to distress calls that often save lives. Training for these missions is essential for maintaining the skill of aircrews, so they are ready to safely execute their missions alongside search and rescue partners. All efforts will be made to minimize disruption to the communities.”
Some aircraft from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) are larger than many passenger airplanes and may appear to be flying lower than they actually are.
“RCAF aircrew adhere to strict rules and regulations at all times to ensure safety,” said Karageozian.
