Kids Helping Kids because ‘every child deserves to have a Christmas’

Kids Helping Kids reached out in song to the County’s CAS Angel Campaign at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute. More than a dozen young performers sang and performed favourite music during the sixth annual fundraiser.
“Saturday evening was wonderful, the music was amazing and even though we had a disappointingly low attendance we still raised $800 for the Christmas Angel program,” said organizer Amy Rutherford. “This year was also the first that the Kids Helping Kids Angel tree was empty at the end of the evening, meaning that all the angel tags brought to the event are children who are going to have Christmas.”
The host and emcees for the evening were Amy Rutherford, Simon Rutherford and Paul Griffin. They thanked the many friends and business sponsors in the community for services and silent auction gifts. All funds raised go to the CAS campaign help children ages 16 and under in Prince Edward County.
“Our special guests were Megan and Caleb Hutton, of Instant Rivalry, who performed their own set plus backed a number of other performers. We couldn’t have done it without them,” Rutherford added.
Rutherford will be graduating at the end of this semester so turned over the host reins to Abbie Chapman, inviting her to run the program for the next three years until she graduates. Amy Sedore, founder of the event, also performed.
“I’ve really loved doing Kids Helping Kids and have been thinking of ways to continue helping the Angel Campaign,” said Rutherford. “At Christmas time there is always room to raise more funds for the campaign because every child deserves to have a Christmas.”
The Prince Edward County CAS Angel Campaign office is located at Benson Hall, Picton. Hours for now are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 613 849 2286.
Susan Rose, Chief Angel with the Children’s Aid Society annual campaign, notes 61 families had registered through the CAS office and Ontario Works before the Angel Office opened. She expects there will be well over 300 children to be looked after this year.

It was a wonderful evening and all the performers were top notch. Really this community is full of very talented youth who need more venues for them to perform at. Had a wonderful time being a part of all this these past few years!
