Lane and sidewalk closure at Royal Hotel for sewer connection work

– Edgewater Stonemasons photo

A lane and sidewalk in front of the Royal Hotel at 247 Picton Main Street will be closed temporarily as a sanitary sewer connection is installed on March 31 and April 1.

Expect traffic to be disrupted from 7 am to 7 pm on March 31 and April 1. Access on Picton Main Street will be maintained at all times. The work is being carried out by contractors for the Royal Hotel.

When the Royal first opened in 1879, it was a centre of social life in Picton. The restoration of the heritage designated property is designed to reflect the storied 140-year long rich history.

Once open, it will serve as a boutique hotel with 28 rooms, two restaurants, a small spa, patio garden and lounge with event capacity for up to 150 guests. Work at the adjacent property at 6 Ross St., also continues. This building, the former stables of the hotel, will house administrative offices, retail space and additional suites.

The completion and opening has not yet been pin-pointed.
