Macaulay Heritage Park was in full bloom Saturday welcoming visitors to its annual Lilac Festival. The day featured exhibits on the grounds, including baking, handicrafts, heritage plants, collectibles, a silent auction, quilting, antiques and children’s games. The Macaulay House, built in 1830 and restored to the mid-1850s was open for tours. Reverend William Macaulay came here as a missionary. In 1823 he organied the Parish of Hallowell, onating the land for the Picton church.
Macaulay House is open from May to October. The Macaulay Church Museum next door is closed for structural repairs to make the museum accessible and update the interior of the museum while maintaining the heritage designation and repecting the age of the church circa 1825. A re-opening celebration is planned for July 2011.
