Enjoy photographs and stories of sailing adventures on the high seas Saturday as the County’s Sandy Macpherson shares his stories and plans for his next quest.
The 20-year-old County boy started sailing when he was nine, at the Prince Edward Yacht Club. What was initially a passion, grew into a way of life.
He raised more than $15,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society in August 2012 during his ‘Sail for a Cure’ ; then made a splash as a member of the British Youth Plymouth Sailing Team competing in a 1,000 mile sprint around the Arabian Gulf in 2013 and this year, in January, with team Iskareen, finished third of 37 entrants in the legendary Cape to Rio Race. His next quest is a campaign toward participating in the Mini Transat 2015 – a race across the ocean in a 21-foot boat, single-handed. Just 80 sailors qualify for the transatlantic race from the coast of France, through the Canary Islands and across the Caribbean to Guadeloupe.
Meet Sandy, and hear about his past and future adventures, Saturday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m. at the Yacht Club in Picton, 30 Fairfield St. Proceeds from beverages will go toward the Canadian Cancer Society and Sandy’s adventure.
