Make Prince Edward County the World’s Ultimate Fishing Town

UFT

Prince Edward County is among the local communities nominated as Canada’s ultimate fishing town for the 2011 WFN Ultimate Fishing Town contest.

World Fishing Network, North America’s only 24-hour fishing lifestyle network, is conducting the search through a nationwide contest and awarding a $25,000 prize and more to the winning community.

The initial nomination was submitted by Rick Marshall. http://www.wfnfishingtown.ca/town/princeedwardcounty-on/575
He posted:
Tell us why your town is WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town? Prince Edward County is several small towns which is surrounded by water, with great fishing year round. We start with Black Crappie in West Lake, Brown & Rainbow trout in Lake Ontario. May brings walleye season in the Bay of Quinte, and the end of June brings the CSFL to the Bay to fish bass in the Bay and the Main Duck Island. The Great Salmon hunt weighs in the Big Boys in Wellington all summer long. The Fall brings the big walleye to Picton where anglers from all over Canada and USA come looking for a Trophy walleye. And I still have to mention the Bay of Quinte ice Fishing from Big Island. This is a fisherman’s Paradise.

How would your town benefit from a $25,000 donation? What cause(s) do you think the money should go towards?
I would like to see it help with the Wellington Harbour Dredging fund, and to help maintain boat launches in Prince Edward County so that more anglers can enjoy our fishing paradise.”

Residents can support his nomination and help reel in a win by adding photos, videos and stories about fishing in Prince Edward County at www.wfnfishingtown.com

The nomination period runs until April 8, and voting will be open from April 12 to May 3.
WFN has divided Canada into four voting regions with Ontario falling in the central region.

Eighteen finalists will advance to the final round of voting from May 10 – 31. The results will be announced in June at a ceremony in the winning community emceed by Mariko Izumi.

The competition is open to every community in Canada except Port Alberni, B.C. – the 2010 WFN Ultimate Fishing Town with a population of 18,000.
