Four swimmers from the Quinte Dolphins brought home medals, qualifications and new records from the annual Lisa Flood Christmas Classic, hosted by the Pickering Swim Club, with swimmers from 10 clubs
competing in sprint and distances races.
Coach Jim Anfield was proud of his competitors. 14 year old Abby Taylor of South Bay performed tremendously at the meet winning two gold medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly events, four silver medals in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle, a bronze medal in the 200m IM, and 5th place in the 50m freestyle. Taylor made new personal best times in six of her eight events and has already qualified with 15 year old times to compete in the eastern regional championships early in 2015.
10 year old Annika Hudgin of Bloomfield also had great success in Pickering setting two new home club records previously set in 2003 by M. Elit and 2005 by R. Craig. Hudgin won two gold medals in the 25m butterfly and 50m backstroke, two silver medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke, 4th place in the 50m freestyle, 7th in the 200m freestyle, and 8th place in the 100m breast and 400m freestyle. Additionally, Hudgin achieved two regional qualifying times in the 50m free and 200 backstroke.
7 year old Rowan Colby and 9 year old Chase Colby of Picton competed in their first meet of the season. They each competed in three events, Chase winning 3rd place in the 50 freestyle and his younger brother Rowan winning 4th place in the same event.
The Quinte Dolphins team will be competing next at the local meet hosted by the Belleville Youth Swim Team January 9, 10 & 11th.
