The Prestige Construction Midgets Kings travelled to Lakefield on Sunday night to face the Ennismore Eagles in a neutral-ice tilt. Things didn’t start well for the County boys as the Eagles scored in the first minute of the game. The Kings battled back against a physical Ennismore team and tied things up at 9:51 of the first frame when Brad Reid snapped a high wrist shot past the Eagles keeper. Ryan Jones drew the assist. The Kings lost focus and in the second period, taking multiple penalties and allowing Ennismore to score three times for a 4-1 lead heading into the third. The Eagles added another goal early in the final frame before the Kings answered back with two of their own from Ben Wilson and Jake Staley. Robert Stapley and Brody Hudgin collected the helpers. The final was 5-3 for Ennismore but it could have been much worse for the Kings if not for the solid goaltending of Alex Ward.
The Kings host the Eagles back in Wellington, Thursday night at 8:15 for the other half of the home & home series. They also face the Loyalist Jets on Sunday at 4:30 in Wellington.
