Mill Street Hill a thrill for soapbox racers

soapbox-28Family, friends and fans gathered at Bloomfield’s Mill Street Hill on Saturday for the annual Soapbox Derby.

racing-brothers300Bloomfield Hallowell Recreation hosted the morning’s races for more than a dozen challengers. For some, it was a first time on the hill. For others, it was a return visit. Long-time racers Amber and Maddy now attend as volunteers helping to keep racers’ times.

All the participants received a medallion and an ice cream cone. Trophies were presented for the first, second and third place finishers. While there are cars available for racers to borrow – such as two from Home Hardware – there are also extra trophies for the most original car, or interesting car.
