We NEED more cops to patrol the dunes because it is just wrong to have a beer whilst relaxing. Meanwhile our 800km international border goes unpatrolled.

  2. Gary Mooney says:

Chris, that’s my understanding as well (although the number may be nine). This is a very good deal, in that we get 12 months of service for free, despite the fact that the additional need is mostly during the summer months.

  3. Chris Keen says:

My recollection from budget discussions years ago the province does pay the costs for ten officers to cover the policing of Sandbanks, and Hwys. 33 and 62.

  4. Graham Cobb says:

I agree Dennis – I mentioned that to my wife last week. Tourist tax !!! Roads, more traffic lights – ie. PAUL ST & policing. The other I’ll mention again – cameras, cameras, cameras ! A camera every two blocks on main streets and ALL businesses = less policing. They are only looked at IF there is an incident by a neutral party.

  5. Dennis Fox says:

Don’t get me wrong – I too enjoy tourists, but to a limit. When our police force has to deal with 303 charges over a weekend, we know we have hit our limit of frustration level for visitors. But to be fair County folk aren’t entirely innocent either, but their numbers are small.

We need a tourist tax – why should locals be paying for this level of policing ?
