Mobile CT scanner in place during installation of new unit at BGH

Patients who require emergency CT scans will be directed to a temporary mobile unit while a new scanner is being installed at Belleville General Hospital.

Starting August 4, for approximately eight weeks, the CT room at BGH will undergo renovations followed by installation and testing of the new scanner – expected to be in operation by the end of September. During that time a mobile CT unit will be used by emergency and inpatients and transfers from Prince Edward County and North Hastings hospitals. Outpatients will be directed to Trenton Memorial Hospital.

“Quinte Health Care’s CT scanner at BGH is beyond its life expectancy and is being replaced,” said Drew Brown, BGH’s Foundation Executive Director. “Donors are the heroes of this story. Our radiologists are always saying that the CT scanner is the ‘work horse’ of the department; they tell us they absolutely must have a dependable, high functioning CT in order to deliver the best care possible. It’s thanks to our donors that they will soon have that again.”

“We want to minimize the disruption to patients as much as possible and bringing in a temporary mobile unit allows us to continue to offer this essential service to our inpatients and to those who require emergency scans,” said Mark Coulter, Director of Diagnostic Services.

Trenton hospital will have extended hours: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and will offer weekend appointments from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. excluding Labour day weekend to help accommodate outpatients requiring a CT scan.

During this time, QHC – Diagnostic Imaging will not be performing CT colonography scans.
