Hundreds of cyclists will gather at Wellington Park Saturday, Aug. 20 to participate in bike tours along the Taste and Arts trails, a bike expo with demonstrations and live music, entertainment and food.
Celebrate Cycling in Prince Edward County is an initiative of the Welcome Cyclists Network, a program certifying and promoting bicycle-friendly businesses and cycle tourism across Ontario.
Louisa Mursell, project manager at Welcome Cyclists Network, said certified accommodations are available for participants for the weekend as well as bike train package options using Via Rail.
“Now people can easily roll on, roll off Via Rail trains with their bicycles,” said Justin Lafontaine, founder of the bike-train program. It costs $20 extra to take a bike on the train.
Bike-train service is expanding across Ontario and Quebec. Via Rail will be running 150 bike trains weekly along its Windsor-Quebec corridor until Oct. 31.
Cyclists interested in riding during Celebrate Cycling in Prince Edward County on Aug. 20 can drop by one of the local bike shops or at the Chamber of Commerce at to get a copy of the Cycle Prince Edward County map.

I would like to see bike paths for all cycalist We have had two cycalist pop out in front of us and narrowly missed them. When you are driving speed limit and go around corner or over a hill and they are riding two fold it does not give you much of a chance especially if you are driving a big rig, they do not stop on a dime.
