Prince Edward County 4-H is living its motto “Learn to Do by Doing” as members celebrated a dream-come-true official launch of a new milkshake trailer.
“It been four years-plus in the making,” says PEC 4-H treasurer Sherrie Brown, “We’ve been putting money away and writing letters to service clubs and with this community’s support and contributions, the dream has come true – not only for the new trailer, (valued at $23,000), but also for everything inside.”4-H president Gaye Insley welcomed representatives who supported the project at the grand opening of the new 4-H trailer, Friday at the Picton Fair. He thanked a long list of contributors from the community. The old trailer had not been used in years when it was donated to the 4H as a vehicle for fundraising, Insley noted. It lasted about 12 years, but its time had come.”It’s more than a milkshake truck,” said Brown. “The 4-H participants learn safe food handling, team work, learn how to work with the public and how to handle money – all while having a fun experience. They all come out of that trailer with a smile on their face.”
Proceeds from sales help run local programs and clubs. 4-H is alive and well in Prince Edward County with 116 members participating in a variety of livestock, lifeskills and pet clubs.
