Multiple charges and suspensions over weekend at Sandbanks

Prince Edward OPP, in partnership with the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team, OPP Marine Unit, and park wardens, conducted a series of enforcement initiatives at Sandbanks Provincial Park during the annual “Skip” day and weekend.

Through multiple RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Every where) programs and proactive patrols, approximately 900 vehicles were checked, resulting in numerous enforcement actions.

As a result:
– Multiple seven-day driver’s licence suspensions were issued for alcohol-related offences, including warn-range readings and novice drivers registering blood alcohol concentrations above zero.
– Two individuals were arrested for impaired driving. Both were later released, and licence suspensions were imposed.
– Officers seized significant quantities of alcohol from individuals under the age of 19. In several instances, the alcohol was located inside vehicles while they were being operated, leading to charges under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
– Charges were also laid for having cannabis readily a vailable within a vehicle.

Police also responded to several incidents during the enforcement period, including a youth requiring medical attention after consuming alcohol and cannabis; a stolen vehicle investigation that resulted in an arrest, and multiple traffic-related occurrences that led to additional charges and warnings.

The OPP reminds all motorists that enforcement efforts will continue, and there is zero tolerance for impaired or unsafe driving.
