New administrator for H.J. McFarland home

Kyle Cotton

Kyle Cotton has been named the next administrator for the County-owned H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in Picton.

In making the announcement Wednesday morning, Mayor Steve Ferguson noted he is especially pleased Cotton has experience leading a long-term care home through a new build “which will be especially helpful given the ambitious work we have in front of us to realize our own expansion project.”

Cotton brings more than 15 years of experience in long-term care management, having worked in a variety of not-for-profit and private long-term care homes.

“I am pleased to welcome Kyle to the County. His experience and skills will serve the County and H.J. McFarland Memorial Home well,” says Ferguson, noting Cotton holds a master’s certificate in health-care administration, is a strong leader, a willing partner, and a collaborative problem-solver.

Plans for the 84-bed facility include 76 additional beds, announced in 2019 by the provincial government. The new home will be built on four acres of County-owned land adjacent to the existing long-term care home.

Cotton is to assume his new role Monday, Feb. 23, succeeding acting administrator Natasha Williams, who will return to her position as the Director of Care. She had assumed the position following the resignation of Kim Mauro as administrator in July, 2019.
