New look for Pirates as they welcome players to spring training

Picton_Pirates_2016_lightThe Picton Pirates will have a new look when they welcome players to Spring Training Camp in May.

Adam Bull, Pirates’ GM, released a look at the club’s new logo for the coming empire B Junior Hockey League season. Updating of the website and social media will roll out this week.

Interested players from ages 16 to 20 (2000-1996) are invited to attend the camp May 7th & 8th at the Wellington and District Community Centre.

Each player will receive a minimum of three games and six hours of ice. Space is limited and the cost is $60 payable by cash or cheque.

“The camp is a chance to not only show your ability to play for the Pirates at the Junior level but also a chance to prepare for Jr. A spring camps,” the club noted in a release. “We are looking for local players with competitive playing experience as well as players who may have moved into the area to attend Loyalist College, St. Lawrence College, or Queen’s University.”

The Pirates’ success includes Empire B Jr Championships in 1999, 2011, 2013, and 2014 as well as an Ontario Schmalz Cup Championship in 2014.

“This past season was a rebuilding one where the Pirates were the most improved team in the league during the second half of season. We are looking to continue to build off that second half success toward another league championship for the 2016-17 season. Many players have graduated in recent years to the Wellington Dukes and this relationship between the two County teams remains strong.”

Head coach, Chris Masterson has more than 15 years coaching experience including time as a coach in Junior A as well as many years as a Head Coach in the Quinte Red Devils AAA organization. He has coached several players who have gone on to professional hockey careers, university hockey and higher Junior levels. Assistant Coaches are Jordan Freeland and Tyler Green.

Register for camp by emailing, or calling Head Coach/Assistant GM Chris Masterson at cmasters@lakeheadu.ca 613-661-0990.

You will need a Permission To Skate Form from your minor hockey association when coming to camp. Include your name, date of birth, previous team, position, shot and cell and home number.
