New salmonella cases cause updated warning for No Name chicken burgers

Health Canada has issued an updated warning for consumers about No Name brand chicken burgers related to 68 cases of salmonella illness across the nation. Nine new cases have been included since earlier this month.

“Based on the investigation findings to date, exposure to poultry, including frozen raw breaded chicken products, has been identified as a source of illness,” Health Canada states. “Several of the ill individuals involved in the outbreak reported having eaten No Name brand chicken burgers before their illness occurred. A food sample of No Name brand Chicken Burgers (1kg), with a best before date of February 6, 2019, tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis.”

Loblaw Companies Limited first recalled the chicken burgers June 2. The code on the 1kg outer package is 2019 FE 06; and on the inner package, 0378M. The UPC is 0 60383 16636 6.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
